A rainy night in Brooklyn may have served as a prelude to tonight’s matchup against the Miami Heat.
With a Heat roster that had no Dwayne Wade, Luol Deng, or Tyler Hansbrough; “Brooklyn’s Backcourt” in Deron Williams and Joe Johnson opened up the main event in Barclays Center, strong with good ball movement and great looks at the basket. The heat however, fought right back through the 1st quarter and ended up trailing Brooklyn 21-19.
As the 2nd quarter got underway, the Nets went away from what got them the lead in the previous quarter and started playing selfish basketball once again. 3’s were horrific, there was barely any ball movement, and the Miami went on a 10-2 run. With 6:00 left in the quarter, Brooklyn’s Backcourt returned to the court and went on a 10-0 run of their own; ending the half on top, 43-38.
The 3rd quarter saw its share of good, bad, and definitely ugly for the Nets. The good? The Croatian rookie, Bojan Bogdanovic, once again exploded out of the half with 13 points in the quarter and ended up tying his career high 22 points. The bad? The Nets went 4 ½ minutes without a single field goal due to broken down defensive plays and poor shooting. The Ugly? The Nets allowed the Heat to go on a 11-0 run which allowed Miami to score their 1st 30 point quarter since Election Day. The quarter ended with Miami on top 60-51.
In the final quarter, the Brooklyn team went back to the unselfish plays and managed to cut the lead to 4 when the scoreboard read 82-78. The Nets however, found themselves in a shooting slump for the next 6 minutes and 14 seconds. If there was a last chance push for the Nets, in the final 2 minutes, Miami’s Chris Bosh destroyed it with a 3 pointer. D-Will actually managed to hit a 3 with 48 seconds left, which surprisingly was his first field goal since the opening quarter. In the end, Brooklyn only managed to score 83 points in the game which marked their lowest score of the season.
The game ended in defeat for the Nets; final score, 95-83.
