The rare, 1 in 1,000, eggs are produced by Philadelphia based wholesale egg company, Sauder’s. The eggs which usually are much larger than regular eggs, come from younger chickens, as their reproductive system is not yet fully developed. They are then put through an electronic candling facility and examined for cracks and blood spots. The double eggs are then set aside and placed into special packages to be shipped and sold.
