“I didn’t want Stiletto Dreams to be predictable,” Nicolette Ellis, a young and new Brooklyn resident, writer and director, tells me in a chill bar called Skytown in Bushwick. She’s sharing a dish with her best friend, roommate, and fellow actress Imana Breaux and drinking “something sweet” that the bartender made for her. Stiletto Dreams is their first short film together and it won’t be their last.
Stiletto Dreams is far from predictable. The film follows the story of a young girl named Brooke (Nicolette Ellis), kicked out by her father and then moves to New York City. Brooke moves in with her childhood friend, Samantha (Atika Greene) and begins to start new and get her young life together. However, over time, moving to this new place isn’t much of the beginning she expected and might not be able to overcome the struggles she begins to face.
The short film includes a number of familiar scenes from Brooklyn: Brooklyn Bridge Park, a coffee shop on Gates Ave., their own apartment in Bushwick. However, Breaux explains to me, “I want this to be not only known in NYC. I want this to be known worldwide. This is for everyone.”
While Nicolette Ellis and Imana Breaux seem to be as close as sisters, Ellis is from Maryland and Breaux is from Texas and they both met in New York City in college a few years ago. After knowing each other for four months, Ellis shared with Breaux that she had a script for a story about a girl who left Maryland for a better life in New York City and Breaux wanted to read it. Just two days later, Breaux had read it and wanted in.
“It was so professionally laid out like a true film script. That caught my eye first. I could also see myself playing Kelly. She reminded me of myself; she likes to push people to be successful and encourage them,” Breaux said.
Ellis, who usually doesn’t finish things that she writes because she hasn’t really had a need to, was so inspired by Breaux that not only did she finish the story, she joined with Atika Green and Director James M. Perry to film this shortly after, amongst others.
Since that time, Kamagra is being viagra on line facilitated at reasonable price to give males healthy reproductive health.
The cast isn’t too far from the struggle they portray as both Ellis and Breaux lived similar lives to their characters. After graduating college, they legitimately didn’t know where they were going to live and lived in a hotel for days before finding bunk beds in a tiny room in Bushwick.
“This indie stuff is not easy…but that’s the journey. My goal for Stiletto Dreams is that it’s given a chance to be seen, move, and touch people,” Ellis says.
“I just want to create. I want us to create our own world,” Breaux said.
