The Powerball has risen to an estimated $550 million after no one won the top prize after Wednesday night’s drawing. This would make Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 drawing the nation’s 8th largest lottery prize ever.
The Powerball is played in 44 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and as you can imagine, this makes one’s chances of winning extremely low. The odds of winning are one in 292,201,338. If someone wins, the cash prize would be almost $348 million. If multiple people win, the monies will be dived up by the number of winners.
Powerball numbers are drawn every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern time.
While nobody won the top prize, there were 242,049 “winning” tickets sold in New York, including one ticket worth $1 million. The million dollar ticket was sold at 325 Washington Enterprise Inc., 325 Washington Ave. in Brentwood, Suffolk County. The owner of that ticket choose five out of five numbers.

The winning Powerball numbers for Wednesday, Jan. 3, were: 2, 18, 37, 39, 42 and the Powerball of 12.
There was also no winner for Tuesday evening’s drawing of the Mega Millions, so the top prize for its Friday night drawing is estimated to be $418 million.
