If we’ve learned anything from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, it’s that not everyone will score a golden ticket, but you won’t know unless you buy a chocolate bar and hope for the best.

Two Brooklynites, after purchasing lottery scratch-off tickets, hoped for the best and won a combined $17M. Melodie Donovan, who works as an administrator for a legal aid society, took home a whopping $7 million after scoring the winning combo on a New York Millions scratch-off ticket back in June, the NY Daily News reports. Darius Menard, a Brooklyn-based artist who purchased two Week for Life tickets at a Deli in Williamsburg, scored matching 13s that awarded him a guaranteed $10 million.

“The first two tickets I played were non-winners. I won a couple prizes on the New York Millions ticket in the past so I decided to give it another try,” Donovan said.

After required holdings Donovan took home a check for $4,361,280. Menard scored a net payment of $5.3 million after taxes.

“I still can’t believe it’s real,” Donovan, who now plans to retire early, tells the Daily News.
