Netflix has released the official trailer for Spike Lee’s upcoming series, She’s Gotta Have It, a contemporary update of his groundbreaking 1986 indie film of the same name.

The trailer opens with Lee as the original MARS Blackmon before he introduces the new Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise) and her three lovers: Greer Childs played by Cleo Anthony, Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent) and the new Mars Blackmon (Brooklyn’s own Anthony Ramos). We also meet Nola’s therapist (Heather Headley) and her friends Clorinda Bradford (Margot Bingham), Shemekka Epps (Chyna Layne) and Rachel (Elise Hudson).

Nola Darling is an unapologetic young woman living in Brooklyn trying to figure out her social and professional lives. That pursuit brings another tricky aspect: navigating her relationships with her three lovers — she doesn’t believe in monogamy.

Lee is on board to direct all 10 episodes of the series. This is the filmmaker’s second partnership with Netflix, following his directing Roger Guenveur Smith’s one-man show Rodney King.
