Popular Lower East Side eatery, Russ & Daughters, is headed to the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the classic food institution, famous for their smoked salmon and cream-cheese bagels and decadent rugelachs, signed a deal for 14,000 square-feet of real estate on the ground floor of Building 77, a 1-million-square-foot industrial structure undergoing a $185 million renovation. Russ & Daughters will be one of the many tenants at the new Brooklyn Navy Food Hall.
The restaurant’s bakery and food production services already take place in Bushwick but will also move to the Navy Yard once opened.
Visitors will be able to view Russ & Daughters’ manufacturing operation through glass walls, a concept that will be replicated throughout the 60,000-square-foot food hall, which Navy Yard officials hope to lease to smaller food manufacturing and retail companies, according to Bowery Boogie.

“You can see through the big glass windows our bagels being made and smoked salmon being sliced, said Niki Russ Federman, fourth-generation co-owner who runs the business with her cousin Josh Russ Tupper. “So to have that connection with the process and people who make the food…is very fulfilling.”
