Locals remember Vlahavas as always welcoming and never letting you go hungry. Tom’s Resturant is known for bringing out crowds of people within the neighborhood to dine on lemon ricotta pancakes and sweet “Lime Rickeys”. The go to Brooklyn eatery on busy days would form long lines outside but Vlahavas would make the wait always worth while. Distributing hot coffee, blueberry pancakes and special desserts you would be full before you get seated, all thanks to Gus.
No word as of yet on the superstar owner’s funeral as we reached out for comment. We will keep you updated.
The family thanks Brooklyn for their condolences!
Happy memories of Gus from Wakefield in the UK. A fine Christian gentleman! God bless you all. Peter, Moira and the boys.
We were very much saddened to receive this news and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and the legion of customers who considered themselves “family.” We certainly did; our son, Sam, lived a few blocks from the restaurant 1996-2001 and it soon became a favorite of his and, on our many visits, ours. Gus and his wife became friends of ours and we felt like royalty when they greeted and served us. We never forgot the warmth and friendliness of our visits and deeply feel the grief of Gus’ passing.
Thank you so much for recognizing my dad! He would have been so proudl to read the article- he loved Brooklyn, people, his family, and Tom’s.
My dad has been an inspiration to many people and touched so many lives- lets remember him for the gentleman he was.
Our family would like to extend an invitation to anyone that would like to pay their respects at either the wake and/or funeral that will be at 9:30 Monday morning.
All our love,
The Vlahavas Family
Absolutely Beth!
Brooklyn loved your father and we are forever grateful for his life. His legacy remains, no doubt!
Beth,
We loved your father and are so saddened by the news! He was always so good to my son. Your dad gave him his first lesson on the value of hard work at 4 yrs old. He would give him money for his piggy bank if he helped out passing the cookies to everyone on line. He always looked forward to going to Tom’s. We made it a weekly ritual that will continue again very soon now that we are back in NY.
I want to give you and your family my condolences. I will always appreciate his kindness.
His legacy will live on!
