Very seldom do I recommend Brooklynites to leave the borough, but when I do, it’s usually for something that needs to be seen.
This September, a Golden Girls-themed café will open at 4396 Broadway in Washington Heights, according to DNAInfo. The idea of the café was thought of by Michael J. LaRue, a close friend of late actress Rue McClanahan AKA Blanche Devereaux, the show’s dainty yet spicy Southern belle.

The café will feature a menu filled with “soups, wraps, salads, desserts, baked treats and wine” and of-course the “Girls” favorite, cheesecake. The spot will also be decorated with memorabilia he inherited from McClanahan, including her piano for special nights of live music. The planned café will be open Monday through Friday 6 am to 10 pm, weekends from 6 am to 11 pm and will have an outdoor setting by next year.
“I believe I can turn this place into a mini-tourist [hub] in Washington Heights,” LaRue tells DNAInfo.
Betty White, who played the quarky Rose Nylund and the only living of the Golden Girls, is expected to be at the café’s ribbon cutting.
Currently Golden Girls is syndicated in 50 countries around the world and is still a favorite to many.
