As if Brooklyn couldn’t get more interesting, electric car racing is coming.
The world’s first fully electric racing series, Formula E, will finish off its third season on a 1.21-mile race course in Red Hook on July 29 and 30, 2017. Half of the 1.21-mile track will loop around the parking lot for the Brooklyn Cruise Ship Terminal and the other half of the course winds around Pier 11. If you’re worried about traffic, the course is said to require no official street closures.
“The world has been trying for years to race in New York City, and it has never been possible,” Alejandro Agag, the chief executive of Formula E, told the NY Times. “Everyone has been trying to race in New York City. Formula One, everyone. New York is the capital of the world. We are really over the moon.”
