“Lights up in Washington Heights,” the In The Heights movie has found its lead star!

Bushwick native Anthony Ramos, who recently starred alongside Lady Gaga in A Star is Born, is in talks to play Usnavi in the film adaptation of Lin Manuel Mirada’s Tony-winning Broadway musical, In The Heights.

The story follows the residents of a gentrifying Washington Heights and a bodega owner (Usnavi) who struggles with closing his store and retiring to the Dominican Republic after inheriting his grandmother’s winning lottery ticket money.

The film script is being written by Quiara Alegría Hudes. Crazy Rich Asians filmmaker Jon M. Chu is set to direct, while Miranda, Anthony Bregman, Mara Jacobs, and Scott Sanders will produce.

In The Heights was previously supposed to be released from the Weinstein Company but after Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault allegations became public the film was eventually bought by Warner Bros.

Miranda wrote the music and lyrics and played the lead role of Usnavi in In the Heights in it’s original Broadway opening in 2005. Miranda and Ramos also starred together in Broadway’s original cast of Hamilton.

The film is set to release on June 26, 2020, according to Variety.
