Right now nearly half a million people are locked up in jails nationwide who can’t afford to post bail before their trial; that number is larger than most other countries’ entire incarcerated population. A staggering 63% of the people in U.S. jails are unconvicted and jailed only because they are too poor to afford their often low cash bail. This party’s proceeds will go towards freeing jailed individuals accused of a misdemeanor and helping them navigate their future hearings and trial.
