It’s “Do Good Week” this week at my company; EzTexting by day — for those who care. I’m not exactly sure why it’s this week of the year but I think it has to do with the fact that Good Friday is this Friday. I’ve also noticed other companies set aside this week as “Do Good Week” too. Whether religious or not, I think it’s a good time to reflect on doing something good for the world and for our community in Brooklyn.

Last Wednesday, Translation, STASHED, and the Bedford-Stuyvesant Campaign Against Hunger served the Notorious B.I.G.’s favorite breakfast to almost 100 Brooklyn residents. This actually started off as a company breakfast and then in less than 24-hours, the breakfast turned into a charitable event in honor of the rapper’s own lyrics (“Big Poppa”), serving T-Bone Steak, Cheese Eggs, and Welch’s Grape.

#TranslateBIG event blew up on Twitter and I believe it’s a reflection of the own mission of the Bedford-Stuyvesant Campaign Against Hunger, an organization “providing the basic staples of a well-balanced diet to more than 30,000 unduplicated, low-income individuals each month.” When they opened their doors last week, STASHED used their kitchen area and helped provide a service to all the individuals who showed up including popular local, Kevin Kite Man.

Sometimes there is a time for being selfish and sometimes it’s important to remember that there are people who don’t even own enough to be selfish. Sometimes those are the kindest people. If you want to reflect on that notion, there is a campaign on CrowdRise to give to the mission of spreading love like we do in Brooklyn. If you donate, rest assured your dollars that go to the Bedford-Stuyvesant Campaign Against Hunger will not be in vain.
