The borough that loves locally grown everything, will soon know exactly what was produce here.

The  Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is releasing a new certification program where Brooklyn based businesses will get to use a seal that reassures consumers that the product was made in Brooklyn.

Many Brooklyn companies have already received seals to start using. To be eligible for a Brooklyn seal, companies had to be headquartered in Brooklyn and produce a product. The companies are reviewed by The Chamber of Commerce to determine how much production is done within Brooklyn, how many employees live here and the location of where they pay their taxes. Upon receiving that information the company then is ranked as gold, silver or bronze.

The program seeks to encourage economic development and the growth of the Brooklyn brand, while pushing back against the use of the Brooklyn brand for products that have no connection to the borough.

Borough President, Eric Adams recently endorsed this program and views it as a way to keep people supporting locally produced products.

When consumers buy Brooklyn, they know they’re getting more than high-quality goods and services; the appeal of the Brooklyn brand is a value-added bonus, recognizable to savvy shoppers from Manhattan to Malaysia. The Made in Brooklyn certification program is a smart way to celebrate this elite status, for businesses to capitalize further on their Brooklyn bona fides and for our borough to generate further economic development. I applaud the vision of Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and its President and CEO Carlo A. Scissura in launching this effort.”
