Jack Roosevelt Robinson, the man who broke baseball color barriers and become one of the most beloved men in America, will have his story told in a new documentary airing on PBS.

The two-part, four-hour film directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon tells the story of an American icon whose life-long battle for first class citizenship for all African Americans transcends even his remarkable athletic achievements with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The documentary is filled with interviews with top names who know or been affected by Robinson’s life. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were on hand to discuss Robinson’s achievements and his marriage to his wife, Rachel Robinson.

“It’s a sign of his character that he chose a woman that was his equal,” the First Lady says in the film. “I don’t think we would have had Jackie Robinson without Rachel Robinson.”

The film, “Jackie Robinson,” is set to air Monday April 11 and Tuesday April 12, at 9pm and 11pm EST.

PS – Incase you care (because I do), Ken Burns is also working on a “Hamilton” film documentary called “Hamilton’s America,” that follows the musical creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and his team during the two years leading up to its Broadway opening. The film is expected to release on PBS this fall.
