The race set to cover 13.1 miles next fall was approved by one of the nation’s biggest road-race organizers, Competitor Group Inc. Josh Furlow, executive vice president of global events for Competitor Group Inc., says the exact date, course and size are still under discussion.

The city’s official tourism bureau, NYC & Company, said in a statement that the race “is a great fit for New York City.” The Wall Street Journal reports, gaining city approval for a race that would require hour-long street closures is difficult and expensive. A long-planned triathlon in Brooklyn on Oct. 26 was canceled at the last hour when the organizer learned it would cost him $127,466 to close a roughly 2-mile stretch of Coney Island road.
