It’s taken 3 NBA seasons, 5 different NBA teams, and a tremendous amount of faith and patience but finally Thomas Robinson is a member of the Brooklyn Nets.

Thomas Robinson grew up in Washington, D.C. with just his mother and little sister. He is a former University of Kansas Jayhawk where he didn’t see much playing time until his sophmore year. It would be that same year that Robinson would receive the most devastating news of his life far too often. In a span of just 25 days, Robinson lost his grandmother, grandfather, and mother. No one can even begin to imagine what Robinson was going through. The only family left for him is his little sister, Jayla. The night after his mother passed, Robinson summoned the strength show up for shoot around and played that very day. In what can only be described as a class act, the entire Jayhawks team accompanied Robinson for his mother’s funeral in D.C. Soon after that everything changed.

With Jayla as motivation, Robinson transformed into complete different person. He became 6th man of the year for Kansas. The following  year he recorded 30 points and 21 rebounds; making him the first Jayhawk since 1961 to reach such a feat. He averaged 17.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. Robinson has also been the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and the ESPN National Player of the Year for 2012. His attitude on the court along with these accolades made him a lottery pick in the 2012 NBA draft. Robinson was hoping the Brooklyn Nets would select him but the Nets had traded their pick to Portland in the Gerald Wallace deal that turned into Damian Lillard with the 6th pick. The Sacrmento Kings would take Robinson instead with the 5th pick.

Robinson never really found a place with the Sacramento Kings and was later traded to the Houston Rockets in the same season he was drafted. The following season he would be traded again; this time to the Portland Trailblazers. Robinson would go numerous games without seeing any action until he got a chance to start. On December 17th, 2014, Robinson put up 15-points and 16-rebounds that electrified the crowd. However, earlier this year, Robinson would be suit up for two more teams. The first, a trade that sent him to the Denver Nuggets for three days and was immediately waived. This was a golden opportunity for Robinson as Billy King and the Nets were looking to have his services for the rest of the season. The Nets really wanted Robinson and Brooklyn was the only place Robinson wanted to be in since he declared for the draft. Robinson tweeted his excitement and with a only couple of minutes left before the Nets could make the deal official, Robinson and the Nets were robbed of each other yet again.

Those sneaky Philadelphia 76ers came in and claimed Robinson for themselves. The reason? So that the 76ers could avoid the minimum salary penalty that pays it’s players more money if the team is under 90% of the salary cap. Robinson was basically kidnapped to make numbers on a spreadsheet work. Needless to say, The Nets nor Robinson were pleased about this but he would get his chance to be part of  the Brooklyn Nets very, very soon.

Robinson, Billy King, and Lionel Hollins would soon have great and lengthy discussion. Robinson is tired of being thrown around as if he’s some scrub. He knows what he can do and wants a long-term relationship with the team and the fans. Robinson was later signed to a 2 year deal with the Nets last month and will don the #41. King introduced Robinson at a recent press conference as part of the new Brooklyn Nets core along side Thaddeus Young, Brook Lopez, and Shane Larkin.

Robinson is now 24-years-old and stands at 6ft 10in. King stated that “Thomas is an aggressive rebounder who will add physical presence to our front court.” This season Robinson is determined to make a statement of his own. He’s going to do it in Brooklyn and do it for Jayla.
