If you thought the MTA was done with the fare hikes for a while, think again.

The MTA is currently considering two plans that’ll increase fares in early 2017. Both plans world raise the weekly MetroCard to $32, a dollar up from the current price and the monthly MetroCard to $121, up from $116.50.

The difference between the two plans are one would raise the base fare to $3, with a 16% bonus for every $6 added to the card; the other option would keep the base fare at $2.75, with a 5% bonus for every $5.50 spent.

Back in October, Mayor Bill de Blasio said he would consider the “Fair Fares” plan that would allow anyone ages 18 to 64, making on average less than $24,000/yr, to purchase a half-priced MetroCard.

“The MTA should be available to everyone in our city, not just those with credit cards in their pocket who can afford a monthly pass, but to those with a few bucks in their pockets who are struggling to take care of their families and get ahead,” David Jones, president of the Community Service Society and de Blasio’s nominee to the MTA board, said in a NY Daily News article.

Whether or not the plan goes through, a fare hike is coming.
