Friday night, Hot97 and WBLS hosted “Christmas In Brooklyn” at Barclays Center. The legendary show, presented by AT&T and FOX’s new show Empire, set to air in January, brought out some of the best acts of Hip-Hop and R&B.

With a line up that featured rappers Diggy Simmons and Lacrae, singer K. Michelle, and Hip-Hop legends LL Cool J and Run DMC, fans at the Brooklyn area received an amazing holiday kick-off. Fans brought out their throwback Adidas jumpsuits, crisp white sneakers and cuban link chains all ready for headliners LL Cool J and Run DMC.

“I just want to see LL take off his shirt live,” a fan stated when asked what prompted her to come to the show. “I’ve waited years for this and I hope it happens today.”

Diggy and Lacrae both jumpstarted the crowd performing some of their new hits and both expressing how blessed they were to perform in Brooklyn amongst legends. Love & Hip Hop star, K. Michelle performed a few songs from her recent release, “Anybody Wanna Buy A Heart” along with the hits that put her on the charts from her “My Life” album. A heart warming moment was shown when the reality star introduced her two back-up singers, Porscha from Chicago and Nova from LA expressing, “I promised myself, if I got a second chance at music, that I would give young singers their chance.” The three ladies collectively performed Sam Smith’s Stay With Me, Xscape’s Who Can I Run To and En Vogue’s Giving Him Something He Can Feel and brought the crowd some pure R&B flavor.

The treat of the night, LL Cool J. The self proclaimed G.O.A.T made a full concert out of his hour set and had the crowd rocking to his classics and dropping a few new selections on us. The Hip-Hop legend brought a few surprises with him including the legendary Bell Biv Devoe to perform their version of Poison. LL didn’t stop there as his set included Brooklyn’s own Troy Ave., EMPD, Raekwon, Murda Mook and even Canibus, having squashed their 17 year battle. The rapper also stated that his 16th album G.O.A.T 2 will be dropping soon. While songs like LL Cool J, Around The Way Girl, Doin’ It and surprises like that can be a tough act to follow, Run DMC showed up and blew the speakers out, literally. While the rap group has only performed together a few times since Jam Master Jay’s passing, they haven’t missed a beat.

While this was a night of music and history, the fans couldn’t forget that there are still protest going on in support of the slain Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Hot 97 morning show host Ebro, Laura Stylez and Rosenburg brought Eric Garner’s family on-stage to honor them and have the crowd show their support.

An awesome night in Brooklyn.
