A frigid cold night in Brooklyn turned into a scorching hot game inside of Barclays. Before the game got underway, the New York Islanders and the Brooklyn Nets exchanged jerseys in a pre-game ceremony as a gift and sign of Brooklyn unity. Jason Collins also had the spotlight as he retired in front of his family, loved ones and old teammates. One of those old teammates happened to be Milwaukee Bucks head coach, Jason Kidd.

Kidd made his first return to Brooklyn to a chorus of boos. Nets players talked about Kidd returning but were more concerned with getting the win. They sure looked like they were as they moved the ball extremely well as Brook Lopez and Bojan Bogdanovic both scored 8 in the first period and had the Nets up 24-22.

Back and forth action between the Nets and Bucks would be the theme for the 2nd quarter as the Nets were holding on to a 2 point lead. However, Jarrett Jack came into the game and didn’t miss a shot as he scored 11 in the quarter. The Nets continued to play their game; sharing and passing the ball which gave them a 17-9 run to end the 1st half on top, 49-41. But that was the 1st half.

The Nets opened the 2nd half a little sloppy with a couple of turnovers then went to Lopez for offense as he contributed 10. The Nets however, couldn’t prevent the Bucks from grabbing offensive rebounds as Milwaukee had 12 of these that lead to 18 points. The Bucks continued to fight back against an 11 point deficit and came as close 2 thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpo and a late 3 by O.J. Mayo of the Bucks.

The 3rd quarter ended with the Nets on top by 3, 72-69.

With the 4th underway, another 3 by O.J. Mayo tied the game at 74 but Deron Williams responded with a 3 of his own. The Bucks then took a 1 point lead  (76-75). Both teams fought with 6 minutes remaining in the 4th. The Nets fought to maintain the small lead while Milwaukee tried to regain it. With 5:35 remaining, O.J Mayo once again hit a 3 to put the Bucks up but Deron once again hit a follow-up 3. D-Will made a steal and scored a bucket that gave him 11 points in the 4th as the Nets lead 91-87.

With 6-2 Bucks run, the game tied at 93 with 2 minutes left. As the Bucks turned the ball over, Brook Lopez came down with a big time dunk. However, O.J. mayo made yet another bucket to tie the game at 95 off a Lopez deflection to send the game into overtime.

Nets controlled the overtime tip as Bogdanovic hit the open 3, however turnovers by the Nets caused the Bucks to go up by 1. “Iso Joe” then returned and got bucket and the foul shot to put the Nets up by 2, 103-101. The bucks managed to tie the game at 103-103 with under a minute remaining. Joe Johnson made another play and a Lopez made a big time block. With a steal by Brandon Knight in the final seconds of the game, Knight missed the game winning layup and sent the game into Double OT, 105-105.

Now in double OT action, Bogdanovic and Brook Lopez controlled the offense for most of the 2nd OT. However it was Jarrett Jack who gave the Nets a 3 point lead with under 24 seconds to go. Then Brandon Knight hit a 3 to tie the game yet again. Joe Johnson tried to hit the game winner but missed and sent the game into Triple OT with the score of 112-112. Wow, triple overtime, here we go.

Bucks controlled the tip and took an early 4 point lead. Bogdanovic hits a 3 to cut the Bucks lead to 1. Middleton of the Bucks was then able to give his team a 5 point cushion but Williams again hits a 3 to cut the bucks lead to 2. Bogdanovic misses on a 3 with 16.8 remaining. Bucks turn the ball over with a 5 second inbounds violation call to give the Nets the final possession. Joe Johnson goes for the 2 but can’t connect. Brandon Knight hits 2 free throws and puts the Bucks up by 4 with 5.06 seconds remaining. Nets couldn’t get a shot off in time and Jason Kidd and his “Young Bucks” down the Nets.
