Happy Birthday Jay Z: 4 Of My Favorite Jay Z Moments Of The Year
TIDAL X: Jay-Z B-sides in NYC on May 16, 2015 in New York City.

Happy Birthday 46th Shawn Corey Carter!

What would Brooklyn do if there was no Jay Z? I can’t fathom to even think about how the borough would be dramatically different. The pride that Brooklynites have, arguably stems from the way the legendary rapper continues to travel the world but systematically makes Brooklyn the frontrunner.

December 4th will always be important to me as a Brooklyn-born female (as I’m sure it is for the rest of the borough). I look up to the Mr. Carter as not only a man who has overcome all odds of what I’m sure many have said he would amount to during his youth, but as a exceptionally smart business man and humble human being who adores his family. Though I’ve come extremely close to meeting Jay, a simple smile and hello has been enough to know that much about him.

As Brooklyn celebrates this living legend’s birthday, here are my favorite 4 moments (his favorite number) from the rapper this year — in no particular order.

Happy Birthday Jay Z: My 4 Favorite Jay Z Moments Of 2015

1. Hip-Hop Royalty meets British Royalty

Given this moment of Jay Z and Beyonce meeting Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton IN BROOKLYN happened December of 2014, I still consider it as one of the most monumental moments of the year — heck ever! To be in the Barclays Center arena, a building Jay Z helped create, with your wife, at a Brooklyn Nets game, it’s an honor in itself to just have part of the British royal kingdom there. Then to official walk across the court, stop the game, and meet them…PRICELESS!

2. Roc-A-Fella Reunion

In May, Roc Nation was tossed to the side for a few minutes as the old Roc-A-Fella gang reunited at Jay Z’s TIDAL exclusive B:Sides concert. Young Gunz, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, and Memphis Bleek all came out and ran through all of their old hits including “You, Me, Him, and Her,” “What We Do.” It was like 2003 all over again. He also brought out Young Jeezy and Jay Electronica. The concert was completely nostalgic and what every real Jay Z fan needed.

3. Jay Z Launches Billion Dollar Music Streaming Service

Earlier this year, Jay Z, in what is said to be the boldest move of his career, launched a billion dollar music streaming company. In competition with Spotify, and (later on) Apple Music, Jay along with other leaders in music and entertainment including, Beyonce, Rihanna, Madonna, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Deadma5, Daft Punk, Calvin Harris, Chris Martin and others, introduce TIDAL to the world. Bold & Brilliant as the streaming service offers HI-fi sound, exclusive fan events and content and is looking into offering TV and film in the future.

4. TIDAL X: 10/20

This might be my favorite of them all! Jay Z celebrated 1 million TIDAL subscribers for what will go down in history as one of the best mega concerts of all time. From new artist Justine Syke and Alessia Cara to rising stars Meek Mill, BAS, Hit Boy and Vic Mensa to the legends Usher, Nas, Nicki Minaj, T.I., Rick Ross, Lil Wayne Thomas Rhett, Fabolous and Beyoncé, all gathered on stage at Barclays Center in Brooklyn for one memorable night. The concert streamed live worldwide and 18,000 lucky fans, like myself, were there at the arena to experience “Glory” first hand. Never will anything like that night be duplicated.

What a career, what a man, what a Brooklynite!
