Get Fit: Brooklyn’s Health and Fitness Week

This past Sunday kicked off Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s Health and Fitness Week. A week of discounted prices at participating gyms is just what the doctor ordered before gym memberships increase due to New Years resolutions.

The maintenance of one’s health (mental, physical and spiritual) is essential to creating and maintaining life’s balance, especially our cool Brooklyn aura. Whether you have a workout regimen or you need that motivational push, the first step is actually taking it. There has been a continuous increase in strides towards health living through the rise of veganism, organic foods, cycling and Zumba but it shouldn’t stop there.

With hopes of boosting our borough’s economy again, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce’s BK Fit program fuses the promotion of healthy living with discounted prices. There’s no rule about health going on sale. This week also includes the Brooklyn Health Care Summit, held at St. Francis College in Downtown Brooklyn, that will address issues concerning health care and it’s industry. The possession of health care coverage has become a luxury along with being able to purchase health foods, as food deserts continue to grow and target specific neighborhoods. The health and welfare of this country, and more locally, our borough, shouldn’t be gambled and sold to the highest bidder.
