Yes, God has truly spoken! The entire world has been waiting for an Aaliyah biopic since it’s been talked about ions ago. Who will play Aaliyah?

An article in VIBE stated, Casting director, Lamont Pete, also said in an interview with Sister2Sister magazine that producers prefer a new kid on the block. “There were so many rumors about Ciara or Solange Knowles [playing Aaliyah], but this is one of those situations where we are going to see someone who we have never seen before,” Pete said. The cast listing has yet to be released. Names that’ve been thrown around include actress Drew Sidora, and 106 & Park co-host, Keshia Chante.

It looks as if Keshia Chante might be it!

We do know for sure one girl did not make it. New actress Tristin Mays took to Instagram

“Normally I wouldn’t do something like this. But a very close friend of mine, @loganlaurice, gave me the courage to speak up about something that’s been pending and sitting on my heart. Today, I can’t be upset that I didn’t book the role I worked so hard for. This may have been the most difficult, emotional, inspiring, and lengthy audition process I’ve ever experienced. Getting the chance to portray someone I’ve always loved and admired so much was a blessing every single step of the way. I invested every ounce of my body mind and soul into this process and I can honestly say I’m proud of myself. God definitely has something incredible in store for me. A huge thank you to everyone who believed in me and spoke up for me in the room. And a huge congratulations to everyone in the cast!#TheAaliyahStory. Like Logan said, you’re satisfied no matter the outcome of things that aren’t in your control. -Tristin Mays”

Well whoever they casted, I’m sure we are all here for it! And it looks as if Aaliyah’s family has agreed to be a part of it. Her uncle, Barry Hankerson is the one who actually broke the news on twitter in April.
