Spreading love is not the Brooklyn way? Not for the Brooklyn Bridge at-least. Apparently the huge padlocks that couple attach to the bridge’s lamppost as a symbol of never dyeing love, are damaging the bridge. It’s been reported maintenance crews removed a whopping 5,600 of the love locks from the bridge since July of 1013. The problem, people just continue to attach more.

The tradition started in Italy decades ago and spread to Paris. It became noticeable on the Brooklyn Bridge in 2010 and has since become a popular tourist attraction. The problem with these locks? There are many safety hazards for motorists driving below the pedestrian walkway, although there has yet to be an incident of some sort involving the locks.
