5-month-old pit bull, Apollo is being called a hero for saving his owner’s girlfriend from a rape attempt in Red Hook.

Maya Fairweather, 18, had been walking the puppy at Red Hook Recreation Area park in November, when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her, threw her to the ground and try to take off her pants. As the attacker tried to remove Fairweather’s clothing, Apollo flew into action biting the attacker’s leg and causing him to run away, police say.

“He was protective,” Fairweather said about her pooch to the Post. “I think it would’ve been a lot worse. I wouldn’t have been so lucky.”

Because of Apollo’s act of courage, he is set to be honored by the Nassau County SPCA and community leaders Thursday at the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan. Amongst receiving the biggest a giant doggie cake, Apollo will be awarded with spa treatment certificates, and limousine service to and from the hotel, along with other presents.

“I think he saved my life,” Fairweather said. That he did Maya, that he did!
