Back in October 2015, we reported that Walter’s Coffee Roastery, a Breaking Bad themed coffee shop that first opened in Istanbul, had launched a Kickstarter campaign to open their first location in New York City. Though it was expected to open in Greenpoint, the cafe opened its 60-seater at 65 Irving Avenue in Bushwick.

“Founded in Istanbul, Walter’s Coffee Roastery is the first coffee laboratory, specializing in daily roasted coffee. We respect coffee and its chemistry. From extraction and brew temperatures to espresso machine pressure and grinder configuration, we have coffee down to a science,” reads the coffee shop’s website.

“The menu looks like a periodic table made up of “elements” like Es, which stands for espresso and Fw, a flat white latte. L will get you a regular latte while Dc means dirty chai. Coffee beans are sourced from Nicaragua, Columbia and Ethiopia, and are roasted in Red Hook. A standout drink is the lemon brew, housemade lemonade mixed with cold brew, and expect pastries from Balthazar followed by beer and wine in the future,” according to the Daily News.

Owner Deniz Kosan — a Breaking Bad fan — launched the shop inspired by a particular scene in the Emmy-winning show where meth-maker Walter White admires a cup of coffee. Roasters in the shop wear HazMat suits and coffee is served in little beakers like the ones White uses on the show.

The cafe is open from 7a.m. to 7p.m. Monday through Friday and 9a.m. to 6p.m. on the weekends.
