Sometimes good things can go completely under the radar. Though Meet The Regulars: People of Brooklyn and the Places They Love, is now the #1 new release in both the general New York State travel guides and in Mid-Atlantic U.S. biographies on Amazon, many of you still don’t know about it, yet you should.

Meet The Regulars delivers an entertaining account and intriguing perspective on 46 people who were either born, bred, or have lived in Brooklyn long enough to talk about it. The Bedford and Bowery journalist turned author, Joshua D. Fischer, personally conducts interviews in the ever-changing and recently celebrated borough of Kings. He indicates in the book, “finding people isn’t the hardest part.”

This writer, with the heart of a sociologist, wanted the unique and diverse stories of Brooklyn’s most interesting people. It wasn’t just about the subjects, Fischer desperately wanted to know about the places they frequent and the businesses that continue to thrive in Brooklyn because of them. The book is written in conversational style, 304 pages long and is a pretty easy read. The 123 amazing photos and 5 hand-drawn illustrations add an awesome touch to the intimate tales of celebs, public figures, and not-so-famous people — The Regulars.

According to the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, “regular” is defined as conforming to a type or standard or recurring, attending, or functioning at a fixed, uniform, or normal intervals. There is nothing “regular” about this book. The author traveled all over Brooklyn to sit down with his interviewees, from Greenpoint to Clinton Hill, Crown Heights to Sunset Park and beyond. He ventured into bars, movie theaters, restaurants, clubs, thrift shops and one hair salon Brooklynites love so much. Fischer interviewed a party-rocker, radio-personality, Brooklyn-blogger, television host, actor, the Brooklyn Borough President and more.

At the back of the book the author includes a complete list of the businesses with addresses. After reading it, one comes away with some sage advice provided by – The Regulars. Jad Abumrad says Splitty’s served great buns that kept one from getting drunk; though the bar he frequented is now closed. Michelle Wolf speaks about Brooklyn Bridge Park, “even though it’s everyone’s park, it feels like it’s my park.” Eddie Cedeno says, I’m never “Why me? I’m always “Why not?”

Though I personally wanted more because the book has me completely addicted, Fischer does continue The Regulars column on Bedford and Bowery with even more people and more Brooklyn hot spots.

You can purchase the book on Amazon, Barnes and Noble or your local bookstore.
